The Stephens Collection
About The Stephens Collection
Established in 1993 by The Finchley Society and subsequently assisted by The Writing Equipment Society The Stephens Collection has, since 1995 been registered as an independent museum
The aim is to acknowledge the bequest of Avenue House and grounds to the people of Finchley by Henry Charles Stephens
The exhibits include examples of the development of writing equipment over the ages, the activities of Dr. Henry Stephens the inventor of the blue black ink, and his son Henry Charles Stephens (Inky) who purchased Avenue House in 1874 and who lived there until his death in 1918.
