For an intriguing insight into 18th century court-life, saunter along the riverbank to Marble Hill House. This beautiful Palladium villa was built in the 1720s for Henrietta Howard, one-time mistress of King George II. Today it is full of Georgian furnishings and paintings. The house is managed by English Heritage.

    Marble Hill is a Palladian villa set in 66 acres of riverside parkland along the River Thames. The villa was built by King George II for his mistress, Henrietta Howard. The House has in its possession a collection of early Georgian paintings, including portraits of Mrs Howard and her circle. The display includes a hand-painted Chinese wallpaper, designed using historical references and motifs.
