You can't visit London and not eat fish and chips! So naturally I had to do my research and find a good place to dine at. Poppies had been voted one of the best places for fish and chips so I wanted to see if it lived up to all the hype. The theme of the restaurant is very 1950s from the waiters outfits to the jukebox and music, which I absolutely adore so I was already thrilled. I ordered the...more

At first, I was a little turned off by the very commercialized look of the food and the gimmicky-ness of the brand, from the pre-fried, heat-lamped pieces of fried sausage and fish to the 50s decor and higher pricing. If you have a smaller appetite, I would recommend getting the kids meal, cod bites and chips, it was a decent size and I would not have been able to finish the adult size. The fish and chips were pretty good, I had fresher and better fish and chips at the Tail End in St. Andrews, Scotland, but Poppies wasn't bad.

I give 5 stars for the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream... so good!!more

Service was not particularly friendly, and make sure you request a table before ordering - because we accidentally ordered first (hey, it was our first time!) and were forced to...more

Overpriced, overhyped and really really bad service!

The fish was A-ok but the chips? Awful! They really need to give another oil bath to their chips... They are not crispy enough and undercooked... Never again!more
