The Auden Influence: Age of Anxiety
Lecture18 Apr 2010 to 18 Apr 2010
Set in a New York bar during the Second World War, WH Auden's 'The Age of Anxiety' won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1948. It immediately became an inspiration for other artists, including Bernstein, who in 1949 named his Symphony No.2 after the work. Marin Alsop leads a discussion on the enduring resonance of the poem and explores the translations made between literature and music. The panel includes poet and playwright Glyn Maxwell. Booking is essential.
