Itchy review of Barbican

Home to the London Symphony Orchestra, the Barbican, the Barbican centre also turns its hand to film, art, theatre, as well as a broad range of musical shows.
Lonely Planet review of Barbican

Begun in the 1970s on a huge bombsite abandoned since WWII, the Barbican was originally planned as just a housing scheme - the arts centre that attracts most visitors was a last-minute addition. Described in The Daily Telegraph as a cross between utopia and a public loo, the concrete citadel of the apartment blocks has recently come back into vogue.
The complex houses theatres, concert halls, cinemas, a renowned art gallery and a highly-regarded brasserie, and is much better loved than London's other modernist colossus, the South Bank Centre.
