St Moritz

Vue d'ensemble

The self-proclaimed ‘ultimate Soho sheebeen’, The St Moritz Club is a long-standing stalwart of London’s most decadent quarter – even its décor has hardly changed since the 1960s. For more than 30 years, the basement venue has been drawing the crowds to hear live music and top DJs. Its flagship club night is Thursday’s Gaz's Rockin' Blues, when Gaz Mayall hosts live performances and pumps out ska, R&B and, of course, rock and roll. Friday is BlowUp, adding Brit Pop, 60s soul, beat, garage, funk and more to the mix. While Decadence on Saturdays is dedicated to glam rock and punk.

Gaz's Rockin' Blues on a Thursday night.

Totally overpriced and very pretentious. If you enjoy sitting on an inch of hard wood all night, being squashed, waiting ages for the bar and paying seven pounds for a gin and tonic I highly recommend it. If you like jazz it's a nice place to go but the dance floor consists of a metre wide space in front of a man playing the trumpet. En savoir plus

This is a really brilliant little cave/dungeon-like rock / metal venue, curioursly adorned with ski posters advertising St. Moritz. There are a couple of smallish rooms / enclaves where you can relax and actually hear you and your friends talk.

However herein lies the dilemma... if you're sitting down, you can hear all of your conversation, but hardly any music. If you move into the main... En savoir plus

Thursday is Gaz Mayall night. Yay.

Had so much fun! Really packed but the atmosphere was great- that's what good ska does to you- makes you forget you are surrounded by drunk teenagers.

But the rest was super. The bartenders were awesome and efficient, lots of polite rude boys and entry only £7 (before 23.oo).

Trays of choco eggs and party poppers for everybody on the house.

Definitely... En savoir plus

I love this place, it's dark, dingy and fabulous!

The club itself consists of a series of basement rooms, none of which are particularly welcoming for a claustrophobic, with narrow, short doorways/corridors linking them all. As soon as you get in (downstairs) you arrive in the bar area and to one direction are some seating areas and to the other is the dance-floor/DJ area.

I have been to... En savoir plus

A very nice combination of a hideaway and a basement in the middle of central London. I guess they really hit on something when they took the most out of the space. On a busy night expect it to feel cluttered but when you've had a couple of drinks and the live music has begun it really doesn't matter. Dance the night away!

I saw there, one of the best blues bands, the lead singer, a lovely... En savoir plus
