Visit St Martin's Theatre to see the world's longest running play , Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap .
One of the most popular shows in the West End, The Mousetrap premiered in London in 1952 and has captivated millions of viewers over the past 70 years. Will you be able to solve the mystery?
What is The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie about?
The Mousetrap, Agatha Christie's masterpiece, is a classic murder mystery set in a remote English country house hotel during a snowstorm. The hotel owners and their guests are shocked when Detective Sergeant Trotter turns up and tells them that a murderer is on his way to the hotel. But it seems that the murderer has already arrived when one of the guests is found dead!
Both guests and staff become potential suspects, some of whom are seen hiding, possibly planning their escape, or trying to answer the most important question of all. It's the question many have been trying to answer for years, and perhaps one of the best-kept secrets of London's West End: who is the murderer?
The Mousetrap was written by Agatha Christie, the queen of crime fiction and creator of some of literature's greatest detectives. Expect the usual surprises, twists and double-dealings as audiences try to figure out which character is behind the murder. The play was originally written for the BBC as a short story called Three Blind Mice for Queen Mary's 80th birthday. Agatha Christie adapted the story for the stage and thus The Mousetrap was born in 1952, which initially ran for a few months in the West End before captivating audiences around the world for decades.
After the performance, you are asked to keep the identity of the murderer a secret so that the play remains a mystery to others. After more than 70 years in London's West End, this crime classic still keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.
