The station opened on 19 July 1975 in the first phase of the extension of the Piccadilly line from Hounslow West to Heathrow Airport and it remained the terminus until Heathrow Central opened on 16 December 1977.

The penultimate station on the west end of the Piccadilly Line, Hatton Cross is the last stop before the line splits to Heathrow's Terminal 5 or Terminals 1-2-3 and 4. I've spent a good bit of time here in the past, since it seems that no matter which time I'm flying out of LHR, the train is always going the OTHER way!
