One of the stations on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City Line, Barbican is one of the few that pops out of being Underground so you can grab a quick sync of your email and send a text. I wouldn't recommend a phone call as you're shortly back into no signal.

A very small station serving a busy area, The Barbican Centre and West Smithfields. The Hammersmith, Circle and Metropolitan lines runs through here taking people to the City. If the train is going eastwards, use the front coaches and if the train is going west, use the back coaches, so you will alight near the Exit, otherwise it is quite a long walk along the platform!

Not sure I agree with the other reviewers...
This tube station has very limited access making it difficult to enter and exist. It never feels very clean and neat. The staff is also not very friendly, probably due to the working conditions.
There is a little shop in the station, does not really work as it is to close to the entrance adding to the access issues. more
Do love these above-ground underground stations, so as you're travelling through, you can quickly download that email or send that tweet.
Barbican has a monster long platform with only one entrance in or out and I always seems to chose the wrong end of the train and have to get walking. Luckily, it's never that crowded so never that annoying.
