RHS Garden Wisley is the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society and one of the largest plant collections in the world. RHS Garden Wisley is both the historic home of RHS and a fantastic garden of the future, thanks to a brand-new planet-friendly research centre.

The Garden is all about inspirational gardening and the plants are regularly assessed to make sure that visitors can explore something new and get inspired with each visit. With 33 defined areas, it’s one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

What is there to do at Garden Wisley?

Visit the research centre RHS Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science, which is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists. See the vital work being done to help future-proof our planet and learn all about the RHS’s groundbreaking research.

Discover fruit and veg of all shapes and sizes in the World Food Garden, sit and reflect in the Wellbeing Garden, or spot insects skimming the water’s edge in the Wildlife Garden. Breath in the fresh air and challenge yourself to race up Battleston Hill, follow the sweet scents in the Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden, or explore the different species of plants in the tropical Glasshouse. Or enjoy a relaxing stroll through a collection of magnificent century-old trees, as you wonder through the Pinetum in amazement.

Step back in time inside The Old Laboratory and discover the early days of the RHS at Wisley brought to life through interactive exhibits, artefacts and the memories of previous students and staff. 

Each winter, RHS Garden Wisley offers RHS Glow Wisley, an illuminated experience with light trails and enchanting features.

When is the best time to visit Garden Wisley? 

The garden is worth visiting during any season of the year. Find plenty of bulbs and blossoms in spring, mixed borders and roses in summer, stunning autumn colours and frosty walks in winter.

What can I do in the rain?

If the rain starts falling, there are still plenty of things to do indoors at Garden Wisley. Walk through the large tropical glasshouse to escape the rain and marvel at exotic plants in a humid climate.

Step into the Garden Centre, which showcases a wide selection of indoor plants for you to discover, as well as gardening tools, gifts and local produce.

Take a look at the indoor plant displays and exhibitions or check the schedule of the visitor centre, which offers educational talks and demonstrations throughout the year.

Take a break, relax and enjoy something to drink or eat in one of the cafes and restaurants.

Plenty of garden paths are lined with shrubs or trees which provide some protection from the rain and allow you to discover plants along the way.

Where is RHS Garden Wisley?

RHS Garden Wisley is near Woking, Surrey, which is south of London.

How long does it take to walk around?

Although it’s easy to spend the whole day and more exploring the gardens 97-hectare (240 acres) site, it’s recommended to spend at least three to four hours to make the most of the garden.

How to get to the garden?

RHS Garden Wisley is one hour from central London and can be reached by a combination of train and bus services.

The nearest train station is Woking. This station also connects to the London train network.

Bus WGS Royal Horticultural Society Gdns from Woking train station is a direct bus stopping at RHS Gardens.

Alternatively you can take the 462 and 463 towards Guildford which stop at Ockham Park Turn, a 19-minute walk from the Garden.

The train and bus journey each take around 30 minutes.

Can I take my own food with me?

Picnics are allowed in RHS Garden Wisley. There is a designated picnic area, so you can bring your own food and enjoy an outdoor lunch or snack. However, you cannot eat your own food in the six on-site cafes and restaurants.
