The bar staff were very lovely and friendly, but I personally could have done without the owner telling us off publically for booking the table for a hen do. She really spoilt the mood by announcing mid drinks 'are you a hen do, actually we don't allow hen dos in here'. Too late, you took £50 deposit for the booking without mentioning it, and now we have eight drinks on the table. I... more
I would have loved to given this four stars but unfortunately there were many things which could have done with some improvement.
For example, there was a group of 10 of us going so I telephoned in advance to make a reservation which I was told would be absolutely necessary. The lady on the phone told me that she would call me back to take £50 deposit (returnable) but I didn't receive her... more
I went to the Ninetyeight twice.
The first time was a while ago, during cocktail week. My friend and I had no idea it even existed - it is a bit hidden from the street, you have to go down a flight of stairs to find it. That's probably why it manages to be on Curtain Road and not be ridiculously crowded on weekends. Mind you, there are still lots of people. Just not to the point when it gets... more
Really fun decor... but that's where the good bit ends.
The cocktails were nice, but not very boozy considering the prices we were paying. Also at one point i ordered a vodka lemonade to be informed that the bar did not have lemonade.

This place was a great little find. Everywhere we'd tried beforehand were either too busy or charging to get in, and we just wanted a quiet-ish drink in nice surroundings.
