Rick Toogood and his wife Katie opened up Prawn on the Lawn as a fishmonger with a small bar to enjoy fresh seafood. The crowds soon descended to enjoy the outstanding quality of food and the establishment expanded into a 35-seater restaurant.
Two days are never the same, as the menu changes daily depending on what the catch is, but expect small sharing plates with sample dishes such as scallop ceviche, monkfish and chorizo stew, and Padstow crab with homemade soda bread.

I guess the quality of the food was probably 4 star and the service was pretty good overall as the waiters were attentive and knew about the food. The cocktails were nice too. However, the overall experience left me a little under-satisfied, the dishes are tasty but you'll have to spend a fair bit to come out satiated. They only offer one warm dish - which in the winter isn't particularly... more
Delicious, fresh, delicate dishes. Scallop ceviche and seared tuna were favourites, truffle oil little gem salad was also gorgeous. The food arrived over the course of an hour to the cute barrel we were sat around and went down perfectly with some nice wine.

Since there's a fishmonger at the front of house every dish is served fresh and put together delicately. The signature Prawn on the Lawn (prawns on toast on a bed of avocado) was lovely as was the Crab Toast with Watercress and Sweet Chutney. We... more
I'd bought fresh squid and mussels from Prawn on the Lawn before, but I'd been dying for an opportunity to eat in, as the place is just beyond adorable. I went with a friend on a Thursday evening after calling to make a reservation earlier in the day, and we were able to get 2 seats at the bar for 8:45 PM. It was a good thing we called, as the place is small but also completely packed! The... more
Very, very good and seriously good bang for the buck. The idea that they do not cook anything was a little vexing but not something one can really complain about after you've had the food here.
Still a bit of a challenge to flag down wait staff but I suppose I might have to get in the mindset that I'm in London and not NYC. Yet when you see the prices, it can really start to make one cross.... more
