Viet Hoa is split into two sections. The upstairs cafe serves simple dishes, while the downstairs “mess” encourages you to cook your own food. Each table has an infrared grill for the guests to cook on. There is a lot of competition between the Vietnamese restaurants on the Kingsland road, but Vie Hoa’s authentic dishes, novel diner interactivity and incredibly sweet and strong coffee, give it the edge it needs to stand out from the crowd.

Although the inside of this place is nicely decorated and the idea of BYOB is appealing we had a terrible meal here on Friday mid December.

We had booked a table and when we turned up were shown downstairs where it was empty.

It took forever for the waiter to bring menus and then even longer to bring glasses for our drinks. We had to go and find him to order our food.

All the starters we had... more

I don't have a bad thing to say about Viet Hoa. The simple Asian-style decor created a great, chilled, authentic atmosphere - and the old Vietnamese lady sitting in the corner of the restaurant peeling bamboo shoots definitely added to... more
