With a combination of delicious food, great wines and a real ambience, Café Rouge has embodied the style and je ne sais quoi of French dining since it opened way back in 1989.Now with over 90 sites across the country it's just the place to mull over the morning papers with a cafe au lait and a croissant, pop in for a spot of lunch, share a post-work drink or relax over an evening meal. The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer. No hassle, no rush, no skinny- decaff-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day.

It was a lovely evening for outside dining and chose a table at this venue. The service was prompt and the food tasty. As it is a French restaurant everything had that flare... Including the waiter!
The location is perfect and the building suits, would go again and again! more
Visited the Hampstead cafe in early Sept. Food was quite good but service was shoddy at best. Will return sometime again- but hope the service improves. Soho location has excellent service- prob an "A". The Hampstead location- a "C". more
We went for lunch today and ordered from their "Menu Rapide." The service was certainly not "Rapide."
The Croque Monsieur was made from ordinary white bread and was barely warm when I received it. It was pale and pasty. The Mac au Fromage was hot but dry. The soup of of the day was good. more
We had a terrible lunch experience at Cafe Rouge Hampstead today. It was clear that the kitchen and front of house were both severely lacking in staff. We waited too long to order, and too long for our food. When the food came, it was the wrong order. We discovered later that we had been charged for an extra item (two sandwiches). We were also charged £2.50 for a half-dozen measly slices of... more
The best thing this branch of Cafe Rouge has going for it is it's location. This stretch of Hampstead High Street could easily be in Paris with loads of pseudo-French cafes lining both pavements.
Cafe Rouge is one of the original chains of this type and hasn't really changed since the 90's, I think even the menu is still more or less the same. Perfect if - like me - you are a fan of croque... more
