I had left the 5 stars 3(?) years ago without a review so here is the review.... KOKEB IS THE BEST. We recently visited and made time especially to go for dinner there but unfortunately they were closed (on holiday?). We opted for another restaurant with good rating and it was dreadful. If you're in London and want Ethiopian - KOKEB IS *THE* ONLY PLACE TO GO.

the closest to Ethiopian delicacy I ever tried was at an Ethiopian restaurant in Nairobi. This time around the food at Kokeb swept me off my feet. If you are in London and craving Ethiopian food especially when you are in a group. This is the place to be. more

I've only ever had Ethiopian food once before so I had a rough idea of what to expect, but I STILL over ordered. Totally worth it though. This is a really small and intimate restaurant more or less held together by one older woman who seems to adopt you the minute you walk in. "Star", that's what Kokeb means...and it deserves 4 of them! Genetesh was lovely and super welcoming...the kind of person you could discuss with for hours, that can actually make you forget that you're here to eat :) "Oh, now it's time to feed you..let me get you your food!"

Brilliant Ethiopian that more than makes up for its random location next to a prison. I don't think I have been to a more welcoming restaurant which is run by the owner who did everything from waiting tables to the bar and probably the cooking. Despite this she was very patient and gave great recommendations and the history of the dishes
