Gardens created by E A Bowles (1865-1954). He was an enthusiastic collector who had a profound effect on the gardening public of the day. An artist and local benefactor, he also wrote several books which are still widely read today. Because the garden was created by its owner it has a 'personal feel' that is as rare as many of the plants that grow there. The garden is home to the national collection of award-winning Bearded Iris. There is also a beautiful carp lake, conservatory, a number of historical artefacts and over 1,000 naturalised bulbs.
Whilst entry to the gardens is free, please check the website for the charges for guided walks, audio tours and special events.
The gardens are open all year round from 10:00 - 17:00 (or dusk if earlier) except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Admission is free. Please check the website prior to visiting, particularly in adverse weather conditions, for the latest opening times.
