Marx Memorial Library
About
The Marx Memorial Library & Workers’ School was founded in 1933 - fifty years after Karl Marx's death - in response to the rise of fascism in Europe. Its aim today remains the advance of education, knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Marxism and the history of socialism and working-class struggle.
The Library is home to a unique collection of published and archival sources on related subjects, including the Spanish Civil War, trade unionism and peace and solidarity campaigns. This 18th century Grade II listed building has a fascinating history rooted in Clerkenwell's radical past. 37a Clerkenwell Green was home to the socialist publisher Twentieth Century Press. Lenin worked here in exile 1902-3.
