I agree with Mija617 & Konstantin about the general character of the place - and I hope you noticed the bit about the clean public toilets - can be a lifesaver in the area.

While I would agree with Konstantin that the redeveloped Paternoster Square feels a bit lacking in character, the move of Christopher Wren's Temple Bar has added some character.
