About

Don’t miss the extraordinary stage adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s celebrated memoir The Years at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London this spring, a strictly limited three-month run.

Prepare to be enchanted by a star-studded cast as Deborah Findlay, Romola Garai, Gina McKee, Anjli Mohindra and Harmony Rose-Bremner bring this compelling story of womanhood to life.

What is The Years play about?

Following the success of its sell-out run at the Almeida Theatre last year, The Years has returned to London’s West End for a special three-month run at the historic Harold Pinter Theatre on Panton Street.

The critically acclaimed play follows Nobel Prize-winning French writer Annie Ernaux’s renowned memoir. Five different actresses – Deborah Findlay, Romola Garai, Gina McKee, Anjli Mohindra and Harmony Rose-Bremner – chart six decades of Ernaux’s life, beautifully representing womanhood while showing a stark contrast to the ever-changing social and political landscape throughout her lifetime.

From advertising, television and headlines, everything changes. Prepare to be transported through a lifetime, seeing Ernaux as a child in the Second World War, as a student partying and fighting for rights, stepping into adulthood and navigating marriage and motherhood, before the show concludes with her as a grandmother.

The Years made its stage debut at the Nationale Theater in The Hague in 2022, before award-winning director Eline Arbo brought the production to London’s Almeida Theatre in 2024. The show received widespread critical acclaim and picked up five Olivier Awards in 2025 including best new play and two best actress awards for Romola Garai and Gina McKee.

Who is in the cast of The Years?

The same star-studded cast behind Eline Arbo’s hit adaptation of The Years returns to the West End in this limited run at the Harold Pinter Theatre. The cast includes Deborah Findlay (The Split), Romola Garai (The Hour), Gina McKee (Dear England), Anjili Mohindra (Noises Off) and Harmony Rose-Bremner (Hamnet).

The creative team comprises director Eline Arbo, who collaborates with Stephanie Bain for the English version, and original book writer Annie Ernaux. Thijs van Vuure is responsible for the incredible music while the set design is courtesy of Juul Dekker, and costume design is by Heidi Bryan
