What is the play Giant about?
In 1983, having just moved into a new home and with his new girlfriend, Roald Dahl is about to publish his new book The Witches, when a knock on the door interrupts his upper middle class life.
Based on real life events, Mark Rosenblatt’s play looks at the scandal surrounding a review Dahl wrote about a book on the Lebanon-Israel war.
In a mix of fact and fiction, learn more about the author’s outspoken views on Lebanon, Israel and Palestine, the impact of his provocative review, and the damage control undertaken by his publishers to save his reputation.

Tony and Golden Globe-winner John Lithgow (Killer of the Flower Moon, The Crown) takes on the role of famous children’s book author Roald Dahl. Dahl’s British Jewish publisher Tom Maschler is played by Olivier Award-winner Elliot Levey (Patriots, Good) and Olivier-nominee Rachael Stirling (The Devine Mrs S) plays Felicity Crosland, Dahl’s fiancée. Richard Hope (Hijack) brings his talent to the stage as Dahl’s handyman Wally Saunders.
