About

Get ready for a comedy-packed adventure as Mischief Theatre returns to London with The Comedy About Spies, coming to the Noël Coward Theatre in April 2025!

From the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong, Mischief Theatre presents a hilarious 1960s spy mission filled with mix-ups, mistaken identities and chaotic undercover operations. Watch as a seemingly simple mission spirals into comic disaster, with a cast of quirky characters, slapstick humour and non-stop surprises.

What is The Comedy About Spies?

It’s been a few years since Mischief Theatre introduced a brand-new West End show, and their latest production, The Comedy About Spies, is worth the wait. This uproarious farce takes you on a wild ride to London’s Piccadilly Hotel, where CIA and KGB agents collide in a frantic race to track down a rogue British agent who’s planning for a top-secret weapon.

Miscommunication and mistaken identities soon spiral out of control, especially when a group of amateur actors auditioning for the first James Bond film are hilariously mistaken for key figures in this Cold War drama.

Set against the backdrop of the swinging 60s The Comedy About Spies dives into a world of stolen secrets, covert meetings in hotel rooms and chaotic blunders. Written by Mischief Theatre’s original members Henry Lewis and Henry Shields and directed by Matt Di Carlo, this laugh-out-loud comedy promises a riotous evening of farce and fun that you won’t want to miss.

Cast of The Comedy About Spies

Rejoice as The Comedy About Spies stars original Mischief Company members including Dave Hearn, Chris Leask, Henry Lewis, Charlie Russell, Henry Shields, Greg Tannahill and Nancy Zamit. They are joined by Adele James, who is making her Mischief debut.

Mischief Theatre London productions

Founded in 2008 by a group of students from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Mischief Theatre is known for its unique blend of choreographed madness and comedy.

Directed by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, the company started with improv theatre before creating their now-iconic productions featuring the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society – a group of amateur actors whose performances always end in spectacular disaster.

One of their most beloved works, The Play That Goes Wrong, has been a smash hit for over 10 years in the West End. Other Goes Wrong productions, including The Magic Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, as well as The Comedy About a Bank Robbery and Mischief Movie Night (In), have also enjoyed successful runs in London's West End, confirming Mischief Theatre’s reputation as masters of theatrical mayhem.
