What is The Score play about?

Settle into Potsdam in Prussia in 1747, and witness the contrasting lives and philosophies of Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederick II; the former a deeply religious composer, the latter an atheist and war enthusiast.

Watch as Bach is drawn into the court of military strategist Frederick II, who presents him with a complex musical puzzle. Over the next few days, their interactions reveal contrasting worldviews and personal conflicts, leading to unexpected revelations and transformations for both men.

The Score is inspired by a real-life historical events of a visit Bach made to Frederick’s court, highlighting the tension between art and power. The true event led to one of Bach’s great later works, The Musical Offering.
