What is Shrek the Musical about?

Shrek stands on stage shouting to Donkey, who is taken aback.

Join Shrek and his trusty sidekick Donkey as they embark on a big and bright musical adventure. Filled with laughter, love and ogre-sized fun, follow Shrek’s epic quest to defeat the fearsome dragon and rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona.

Be swept along the journey by clever digital projections and lavish costumes that bring each character to life. An incredible cast play Shrek’s memorable fairytale friends, including Brandon Lee Sears (Dreamgirls, Motown) as Donkey and Joanne Clifton (The Addams Family, Strictly Come Dancing) as Princess Fiona. Shrek is played by the talented Antony Lawrence, known for his roles in The Lion King and We Will Rock You.

Princess Fiona wears a green dress and stands next to Shrek, the green ogre, and the Donkey.

This fun-filled family show directed by Nick Winston and Sam Holmes effortlessly blends laugh out loud comedy and uplifting dance numbers, set to a toe-tapping soundtrack featuring favourites such as “I'm a Believer”, “Big Bright Beautiful World” and “I Know It's Today”.

Originally awarded the Best New Musical at the 2012 Olivier awards, this musical extravaganza based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film returns for a magical adventure in summer 2024 you won’t want to miss.
