About
What is the Cutty Sark Rig Climb Experience?
For the first time since the Cutty Sark’s arrival to Greenwich in 1954, visitors can now climb its impressive rigging to get a taste of what it would have been like to scale the towering masts of this historic ship hundreds of years ago.
The adventure begins with a safety briefing underneath the ship’s iconic copper-clad hull, where your guide will share stories of what it would have been like to live and work abroad the famous vessel.
Stepping on to the Main Deck make your way to the ship’s ratlines, a ladder-like network of ropes at the base of the masts, where you will begin your ascent up the rigging. Upon reaching the top platform you will be met with spectacular views across the Thames. Take in London’s impressive city skyline, spotting famous landmarks such as the 02 and Greenwich’s National Maritime Museum.
Feel the exhilarating thrill of the Lower Topsail Yard, the lowest sail on the mast of the ship, by gripping the horizontal bar and shuffling along the footrope across the iconic attraction below.
A controlled descent brings you back down to the Main Deck, where you can continue your Cutty Sark experience exploring the museum at your leisure.
