In the past two years, Moses Sumney has emerged from the shadows of an introversion into an independent artist to watch, riding a wave of word-of-mouth praise based on intimate recordings and dynamic live performances. Recorded with an 80s 4-track cassette recorder on loan from TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, his self-released EP Mid-City Island went on to win him support slots with forebears like Beck, Sufjan Stevens, and Erykah Badu. Last year's 7? single "Seeds/Pleas" on Terrible Records received widespread critical acclaim, hailed as "unexpected and captivating" by Pitchfork. His live shows blends prismatic digital layers of vocalizations with organic guitar-based folk and soulfulness. He is currently polishing his debut album.
