Chenyin Li at St John's Smith Square

Bluthner Piano Series Chenyin Li Piano Beethoven Sonata No. 27 in E minor Op. 90 Beethoven Sonata No. 21 in C Op. 53 'Waldstein' Trad. Three Chinese transcriptions Stravinsky Petrushka Suites The Sonata Op.90 was composed in 1815 and dedicated to Prince Moritz von Lichnowsky. Beethoven's friend and biographer Anton Schindler reported that the two movements of the sonata were to be titled Kampf zwischen Kopf und Herz ("A Contest Between Head and Heart") and Conversation mit der Geliebten ("Conversation with the Beloved"), respectively, and that the sonata as a whole referred to Prince Moritz' romance with a woman he was thinking of marrying. 'Too long', claimed the critics when Beethoven published his "Waldsteinsonate". The three movements are of almost equal length and intensity and they demand not only the full attention of the listener but are also a challenge for the pianist. Both are however richly rewarded. Petrushka brings music, dance, and design together in a unified whole. It is one of the most popular of the Ballets Russes productions. It is usually performed today using the original designs and choreography.
