"I felt like so much had happened here. And I was told, that we, us, this generation, we were the ones that it had all happened for...The wheels were set in motion for driving this place forward, but we had to drive the train, to bring it to the next destination." Following on from the recent success of new writing festivals showcasing work from Scotland and Yorkshire, View From Here returns to Theatre503 to celebrate work from Northern Ireland. What does it mean to be from Northern Ireland today? What futures can we imagine when surrounded by history? View From Here present four plays by established and emerging playwrights who use dark humour and engaging storytelling to forge a new path through the post-industrial landscape to explore our relationship to the past and what it means for our identity today. Join us for a night of stories from Northern Ireland, directed and performed by a company of young and vibrant actors and theatre-makers. Including 'Half a Glass of Water' by James Tait Black Prize Winner, David Ireland; 'Lally The Scut' by Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winner Abbie Spallen; work by emerging writer Patrick Dunlea; and a new commission from writer/performer Alice Malseed. View From Here is a series of weekend festivals celebrating the rich seam of playwriting talent that runs through all regions of the UK. Each weekend presents a selection of new writing, from short plays to extracts of full-length productions, that showcases the best a region has to offer.
