Phillip Nangle, Southern African traditional musician, artist and instrument maker returns to October Gallery Theatre to perform on March 2nd. As he performs on a variety of Southern African musical instruments including mouth-bow, mbira, overtone flute, harp, marimba and drums, be prepared to be led down a dusty dirt road on a journey to the edge of time. Utilising repetition, overtones and the inherent melodies woven into the warm fabric of the polyrhythms he explores, this administer of trance-induction formulae and sonar therapies carries decades of experience in the give and take of musical delivery. So do not be surprised if you respond when called to jump off your seat and enter the realm of unknown participatory possibilities! Eclectic composer and energetic performer, Phillip manages to vividly transcribe and express his life lived in South Africa and in his own particular style, capturing forms from the spacious stillness of the blazing heat of the Botswana desert to the interwoven tapestry of polyphonic patterns in the forests of Mozambique. Though highly structured music, Phillip works spontaneously and in an improvisatory nature. With voice and instrument as well as some works performed over pre-recorded tracks, he generates a complex polyrhythmic infusion of sound that holds one cocooned within a sustained sonic embrace. Adding to the performance will be the inclusion of some surprise guest appearances! Do not miss this one! What some notable World Music performers have said of Phillip Nangle: Derek Gripper: " Phillip Nangle, a Master Multi-instrumentalist!" Syd Kitchen (late): "The Inimitable Phillip Nangle, a National Treasure!" Pedro espi Sanchez: "Indomitable! is a good word for you." Stefan Micus: "Very nice pieces indeed!" (album "Solo Mbira")
