Introduction To Dye Techniques at Fashion And Textile Museum

From to

In this one day introductory workshop the class will start with a talk on shibori dyeing techniques by tutor Michele after which participants will dye their own cotton tote bag and cotton T-shirt which will then be left to bond with the dyes. The afternoon consists of experimenting with silk dyeing using instantaneous and low-tech techniques which can be fixed in a couple of minutes in a microwave. Participants will then reveal their finished cotton bag, T-shirt and silk experiments to the class. This is an introductory workshop ideal for those who want to learn basic techniques that can be used at home. Michele is a textile artist specialising in natural dyes, spinning and fancy crochet techniques. She loves to work with colour and texture, and as a member of the West Essex & East Herts. Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers, is passionate about passing on the textile skills and knowledge held by the guilds.
