George Barton percussion Siwan Rhys piano Patrick Brennan 3:5:1 Lindisfarne Tiles (world premiere) John Luther Adams Four Thousand Holes Blurring the lines of perception: sonic dreamscapes by turns blissful and unsettling. In Four Thousand Holes, John Luther Adams stretches, deconstructs and overlays the chord progressions of Beatles songs at multiple speeds simultaneously. The live instruments combine with electronically-manipulated piano and percussion samples in a turbid haze, as the simple triadic sequences are transformed into an ecstatic canvas of slowly shifting harmonies and rhythms that move in and out of focus over half an hour. In Patrick Brennan's new work, 3:5:1 Lindisfarne Tiles, instruments blend and become unrecognizable through microtonal preparation, creating a different kind of blurred soundworld, unexpected and other-worldly.
