Tracy Lee Griffith: Herd at Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery At Charlotte Street Free

Tracy Lee Griffith's colour sense has developed from her nomadic lifestyle. Growing up in Westchester, New York and St. John in the US Virgin Islands, she has since spent time in California, Hong Kong, London and Portland, the character of these different contexts informing her work. Griffith began expressing herself through landscape painting, when her late uncle left to her his collection of brushes and acrylics. Developing a talent that he had always encouraged in her as a child, she went on to produce abstract landscapes using bold colours and layered polyresin. Her connection to the natural world continues with her animal skull series. These works recall Griffith's horse treks in Botswana and South Africa, in which she was able to ride with herds of antelope, kudu and wildebeest. The fall of light across their faces and horns inspired a new sculptural investigation of colour. In addition to her art, Griffith is the world's first certified female sushi chef. Prior to this she worked as an actress in Hollywood and New York. She sees a synergy between her work as a chef and an artist, with both relying on mindful placement of colour. Griffith's work has been shown around the world, with the skull series exhibited with the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery at the 2017 LA Art Show and her first solo show at the gallery scheduled for February 2018.
