This month, Stance kicks off its programming as a Tate Exchange Associate and celebrates its 1st birthday with a Uniqlo Tate Late at London's Tate Modern (26 January 2018, 1800 - 2200). Stance will mark the occasion with a night paying tribute to the cultural heartbeat of London - its vibrant, eclectic people and stories. Often overlooked in narratives of Quintessential Britain, Stance takes its audience to the fringes of culture and will celebrate a more representative London at the city's iconic Tate Modern. Combining sound, image and movement, Stance highlights a selection of diverse, global, cultural influences--past and present--that make London one of the most unique cities in the world. Stance will take attendees on a fresh audio journey through global music scenes emerging in London, with a takeover of the Turbine Hall Bridge. DJs Sketchy, Beejoux and Emily Dust will play back-to-back sets of music from Desi Disco to Brazilian Neo-Baile, and Indo-Caribbean Chutney to Angolan Kuduro. Artist Lotte Andersen will capture euphoric moving portraits in a live flash dance studio. Stance will invite nostalgia for the UK Garage and British Asian Daytimer subcultures with short film screenings of Ewen Spencer's "Brandy & Coke" and Riz Ahmed's "Daytimer". Photographer Georgina Cook presents "Who Wants a Rewind," an immersive Dubstep retrospective which will feature photography from seminal--and now defunct--club nights like FWD and DMZ, alongside a live club night recording of a former Dubstep night. Lastly, the public will have the opportunity to collaborate with Young Photographers London on the night to create a one-off zine to mark Stance's 1st birthday. Named in Guardian's "Best Podcasts 2017," Stance is an independent arts, culture and current affairs podcast, exploring global and diverse perspectives. Founded in 2017 by Londoners, Heta Fell and Chrystal Genesis.
