Discover rare photographs and original negatives from the beginnings of this artistic medium with Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography at the National Portrait Gallery.

The exhibition brings together the works of four of the most famous names in art photography: Julia Margaret Cameron, Lewis Carroll, Oscar Rejlander and Clementina Hawarden. Delve into the style and fascinating themes of Victorian photography, and get an exciting behind-the-scenes look at how these works were made.

Highlights of the display include an early example of photomontage by Rejlander, and Carroll’s photographs of Alice Liddell, his muse for Alice in Wonderland.
