About

Marie Yagami Movement The Little Girl Inside Me Celebrating the human spirit and dealing optimistically with healing and recovery from an event of childhood trauma. This work brings an immensely positive, authentic outlook using movement, voice, sound and projection mapped images. A young woman has experienced the Kobe earthquake in 1995 whilst on her train journey, aged10. The events have deeply affected her entire life, her mental health and relationships. She is eventually diagnosed as an adult with PTSD. She appears, stuck in a cage which separates her from herself and the outside world. She distracts herself by running away from her reality. Gradually, she finds a child, also trapped in a cage, who is a younger version of herself. By entering gently into physical dialogues with this child she begins to see her past more clearly, accept who she has become, and to also see who she might yet still become. We disagree. Pram firmly in the hallway, this new solo brings to life the physical and psychological experiences of early parenthood with dance, spoken word, video and original music. From breast engorgement to mastery of nappy-sniffing via a constant low-level angst, Baby Plus Two is an emotional journey, filled - like motherhood itself - with angst, humour and love. Three performers represent a conqueror, the conquered, a visitor and the audience acts as an observer. Courtney Scheu is an Australian independent dance artist based in the UK. Drawing from literature, improvisation and varying disciplines, she explores the physical potential of the human body and how she might disrupt familiar patterns of moving. "I liked the piece a lot because it had clear in intentions. A very direct communication between the performers and the audience. Well structured in the composition and timing." - Mate Meszaros
