With his trademark depiction of convoluted but highly 'outcome-focused' contraptions, William Heath Robinson - renowned artist, illustrator and humourist - was also a consummate 'ad man'. In the early 20th century, he was one of the pioneering artists who rewrote the rules on how we communicate commercially: replacing the traditional copy-dominated style with a focus on imagery to tell stories. The humour in his work led to his ever increasing employment in the burgeoning advertising industry. The Heath Robinson Museum ends 2017 and heads into 2018 with a special exhibition celebrating his most memorable advertising commissions, from whisky to bread, steel fabrication to leather, for nearly 100 clients including major brands such as Johnnie Walker and Hovis. Next door our permanent Heath Robinson exhibition combines original artwork with books, photographs, film and digital media to tell the full story of Heath Robinson's artistic career. This special exhibition as well as entry to our permanent exhibition of Heath Robinson's works and life is open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. from 2nd December 2017 until 18th February 2018. NOTE we are closed on Sat Dec 23rd and Sun Dec 24th
