About

The London Antique Rug & Textile Art Fair, the UK's only specialist fair to focus on the finest woven design and art, returns to its home on the Mezzanine of Battersea's Decorative Fair from 23-28 January 2018. LARTA offers an exotic cornucopia of the finest oriental rugs and tribal textiles, such as suzanis and ikats, luxurious monotone berbers and colourful flatweave dhurries; European carpets from French Aubusson to Swedish rya; verdant Brussels tapestries; fibre art and weavings from around the world including Asia, Africa and the Americas, and associated collectable and decorative items. Sixteen specialist dealers (three of them new in 2018), leading experts in their varied fields, come together at LARTA to present this annual celebration of colour and design in antique rug and textile art, and the choice displayed under one roof cannot be bettered. Established since 2011, the Fair is a focal point for decorators, collectors and international buyers. Traditional rugs for sale originate from Persia, India, China, Central Asia, Anatolia and the Caucasus, and period works date to the early 20th century, ranging in price from around £500 to over £25,000. An exclusive selection of contemporary hand-made art rugs is also available from exhibitors such as designer Gideon Hatch, and the world-famous Liberty Oriental Rugs, which last year launched at LARTA a fabulous range of floral silk rugs to great acclaim in the design world. Designers such as Rose Uniacke, Nina Campbell and Chelsea Textiles find LARTA an invaluable buying resource for client projects and archive research, and collectors come from as far afield as America and Switzerland. With its mid-winter timing and souk-like atmosphere, it is hard to visit LARTA without wishing to take home a luxurious rug or textile in celebration of texture, colour and pattern.
