A rare and exclusive first-time collaboration led by percussionist and bandleader Guy Schalom featuring Egyptian master musicians the Baladi Blues Ensemble and the renowned Brazilian dancer and choreographer Serena Ramzy. Presenting Serena Ramzy alongside other international and UK guest dancers, this event will showcase exclusive choreographies and dance interpretations based on live music from Guy Schalom's latest CD: "TEN". Highly regarded internationally for his Egyptian dance music expertise, Guy is also known for his work with Klezmer-revivalists the The Klezmatics, Frank London, David Krakauer and Trio Yas as well as Egyptian musical stars Natacha Atlas and the Musicians of the Nile. www.guyschalom.com SERENA RAMZY Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Serena Ramzy started dancing at the age of eight, beginning with ballet, modern and of course, Samba! In 1991 she became Brazil's youngest professional bellydancer and in 1996 began collaborating with the renowned percussionist Hossam Ramzy with whom she toured over 25 countries. Serena went on to lead the first national dance performance in the history of Saudi Arabia and to produce several Arabic dance DVDs. The immense popularity of the first of these DVDs, entitled "Visual Melodies," led to Serena's distinctive style being recognised internationally for its fluidity and musical expressiveness. BALADI BLUES ENSEMBLE Nominated for Best Group in the Songlines Music Awards, the Baladi Blues Ensemble and their unique brand of urban Egyptian dance music was featured in the BBC documentary "Bellydancing and the Blues" (which bandleader Guy Schalom himself presented) and were a hit at recent WOMAD festivals.
