This crazy-haired jazz guitarist certainly isn't in Kansas anymore, he's touring the UK performing songs from his new Orchestrion Project with the help of his group. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and in 1974 emerged on to the international jazz scene. His style of playing was often reserved for horn music which is one of the many things that gives him his distinctive sound. He soon started introducing the world to his highly improvised take on traditional jazz and swing experimenting with electronic synthesisers and testing the limits of his guitar. He has worked with a diverse range of artists over the years including Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Milton Nascimento and David Bowie further demonstrating his versatility. As if that isn't enough the long-haired jazz star also swapped his guitar for a brief case at the tender age of 18 and taught music at the University of Miami and later Berklee College. He then went on to conduct music workshops as a guest tutor at institutes all over the world and is now highly esteemed among musicians and educators alike. As if having 17 Grammys wasn't enough.
