WHERE REVOLUTION MEETS POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT Brixton will be Ovalhouse's new home in 2020. A hub of people, styles and cultures, Brixton is synonymous with many of the great cities of the world for its iconic identity. Our BRIXTON CITY FESTIVAL 2017 celebrates this. Building on the success of our first festival last year, BRIXTON CITY FESTIVAL 2017 will fill the streets of Brixton from 21 - 24 September with radical entertainment from theatre makers and musicians, to spoken word artists and even hula-hoopers! BRIXTON CITY FESTIVAL PROGRAMME Thurs 21 September The festival begins in our own backyard (Ovalhouse's car park!) as Gerald Winstanley's Mobile Incitement Unit kick us off with a theatre/gig exploring the history of protest in England. Friday 22 September The mobile Incitement Unit moves to Brixton for more radical protest while a Rhyming Guide to Radical Brixton invites you to walk through Brixton with street poet Potent Whisper. Saturday 23 September We showcase Brixton's young musical talent with Raw Material before Lara Lee returns to fill Windrush Square with the smooth soul sounds of her Wonders of Brixton and Inua Ellams invites you to join him on The Midnight Run. Sunday 24 September Take a secret journey through the streets of Brixton with all the Journey's I Never Took, take part in our hula-hooping roller-disco with Marawa the amazing or catch Bootworks as they cycle through Brixton on their mobile Jukeboxes.
