Malena returns from a visit to Latin America with a box of cassette tapes from her childhood. Back in the Seventies when her family were forced, like many others, out of their country by socio-political unrest, these recordings were the only way to communicate with relatives back home. Now, alone in London on her fortieth birthday, Malena finds the courage to play them.
She must handle them with care lest the strain of winding them forwards and back snaps the fragile tape. She has never heard them before, but she's aware that they hold stories, songs and memories from one of the most tumultuous periods in South American history - the secrets they hold may change the course of her life forever.
Will Malena find the key to her future in the voices from her past?
A moving new work by Argentine artist Florencia Cordeu and Omar Elerian (Associate Director, Bush Theatre) about the fragility of memory.
