Series

Opening this concert are three lively excerpts from Mendelssohn's interpretation of Shakespeare's magical A Midsummer Night's Dream, creating an energetic yet mystical atmosphere.

Following this, Principal Trumpet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, James Fountain, takes to the stage for Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, a piece which pushed boundaries for the trumpet. The infectious melodies ensure this is a firm favourite of the classical canon.

Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, known as the Pastoral Symphony, complete with birds chirping, babbling brooks and thundering storms, closes the concert with its vibrant musical picture of the great outdoors.
