Musicians and scientists descend on Hackney Church to celebrate 40 years of NASA's Voyager. An eclectic congregation of artists, musicians and scientists are gathering at St. John's Church in Hackney on 2nd September to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Voyager space mission, with an evening of science, art and sound. To salute one of humanity's greatest scientific achievements, experimental musical collective NEEK will be unveiling their album inspired by the feat. Accompanying the performance will be a series of talks NASA's endeavours from speakers including Prof John Zarnecki and Dr Leigh Fletcher. As well as art and installations on the themes of Voyager's exploration and the personification of the heavens. The Voyager mission took advantage of a rare planetary alignment to slingshot themselves to the outer solar system. The space mission revolutionised humanity's understanding of the solar system, how it formed, and may even hint at how we came to be. The irony of commemorating such an endeavour in a church is not lost on organiser Nick Miles, who said "at the time I was just looking for a spectacular venue, but it does feel like we're celebrating a victory of science over religion on away ground". NEEK's album The Grand Tour is inspired by Voyager's 40 year journey. "From the embodiment of the planets in antiquity with the personalities of the Gods, we encounter them through Voyager's eyes as they, cast out from Earth" says NEEK keyboard player Jenny Green.
