Joan Cleville Dance: The North at The Place: Robin Howard Dance Theatre

About

It's a place we all know, but we have never been. A forest, a desert of ice. The land of ancient gods, wild animals and strange creatures. The home of the Terrible and the Sublime.

After their highly acclaimed debut Plan B for Utopia, Joan Cleville Dance are back with The North, the bleak yet whimsical story of a young man's journey in search for meaning in an unpredictable environment. A place with its own sense of time and space, where being lost is the norm, and letting go the only way to survive.

Blending elements from dance, physical theatre and puppetry, the new work from Joan Cleville (Tramway's 2017 Associate Artist) will feature dancers Solene Weinachter (Lost Dog, Gecko, Scottish Dance Theatre), John Kendall (balletLORENT), and Eve Ganneau (Andersson Dance, Scottish Dance Theatre).

Joan Cleville Dance is an independent dance company based in the city of Dundee, Scotland. The company's debut piece, Plan B for Utopia found critical and popular acclaim across the UK and international festivals and showcases, including British Dance Edition and internationale tanzmesse.

Supported by Creative Scotland. Co-commissioned by Tramway and The Place. Developed with the support of The Work Room, Dance Base, Citymoves, Scottish School of Contemporary Dance and Dundee & Angus College.
