London Concert Choir and their conductor Mark Forkgen present a wide-ranging selection of excerpts from German, Italian, French and English operas. The featured operas are Mozart's The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflote), The Rake's Progress by Stravinsky, Verdi's La Traviata, Bizet's Carmen, and Die Meistersinger by Wagner. Bullfighters, gypsies, femmes fatales, soldiers, medieval mastersingers, Egyptian priests, members of Parisian high society and London low life - all are represented in this concert performance of overtures, arias, choruses and longer sequences. Bringing the characters vividly to life will be soloists Erica Eloff (soprano), Jeanette Ager (mezzo soprano), Alexander James Edwards (tenor) and Peter Willcock (baritone). Mark Forkgen's choice of excerpts will provide a feast of stirring music to enthral newcomers and experienced fans alike. Among the well-loved items you will hear are the bird-catcher Papageno's aria from The Magic Flute, the drinking song 'Brindisi' from La Traviata, the Habanera and Toreador Song from Carmen and the Prelude to Act One and grand Finale from Die Meistersinger. London Concert Choir has been a significant part of the London music scene since 1960, displaying remarkable musical versatility and expressiveness under the leadership of Mark Forkgen, who has just celebrated 20 years as its Music Director. The choir will be joined by Southbank Sinfonia, a talented orchestra of young graduate professional musicians from all over the world.
