Step into an enchanting world with The Little Matchgirl (and Other Happier Tales) at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Inspired by the tales of Hans Christian Andersen and other storytellers, writer Joel Horwood and director Emma Rice present a moving performance centred on the hopes and dreams of an impoverished matchgirl told by flickering candlelight. Become immersed in a series of mysterious visions, magical stories and some unescapable modern truths, as the show is propelled by the individual strikes of the on-stage heroine’s matches during her perilous battle to stay warm.

Overflowing with magic, music and puppetry, The Little Matchgirl (and Other Happier Tales) promises to continue mesmerising audiences long after the curtains have closed.
