Fires of London: Fires Ancient and Fires Modern

The transformative power of fire

Fire both literally and metaphorically presents opportunities for renaissance. Martin Firrell's work celebrated the ability of people and places to overcome adversity with two new projections onto St Paul’s Cathedral and The National Theatre, as part of London's Burning.

Fires Ancient echoed the fire that gave birth to the iconic Wren building that emerged, phoenix-like, from the ashes.

The projection was visible from across the river with a unique view from the terrace of One New Change.

Fires Modern revealed the metaphorical fires that have shaped modern London and the landmark moments that have created the open, diverse, and free city we enjoy today.

With thanks to St Paul's Cathedral and National Theatre.
