This Crouch End branch of the Purkis fishmongers was set up in 1983 and continues a family tradition of food trading that goes back for two centuries.
They have a reputation for selling the freshest fish with daily supplies coming in from Billingsgate Market as well as a twice weekly delivery from Europe supplying them with more exotic fish and shellfish. Much of the smoked fish sold through the shops is smoked in the century old smoke house at the rear of the Crouch End Shop, with recipes that have been handed down through the family for at least six generations
