A grandes rasgos

Mozart arr. Freystadtler Piano Quartet in Eb (arrangement of Quintet K452) Mozart 'Kegelstatt' Trio K498 Mozart arr. Schwencke 'Grand Quintetto' (arrangement of Grand Partita K361) Mozart through the eyes of his contemporaries A series of three concerts in which period-instrument group, Ensemble DeNOTE explore celebrated chamber music by Mozart and Beethoven in unfamiliar arrangements made by the composers themselves, their pupils and contemporaries. Each concert is introduced by a pre-concert event led by Professor John Irving, Mozart specialist, fortepianist and founder of Ensemble DeNOTE. We begin our exploration of historic chamber music arrangements with two familiar Mozart works in unfamiliar guises: his Quintet for Piano and Winds, K.452 arranged as a Piano Quartet by his one-time composition pupil, Josef Freyatadtler (and actually the first published edition of the work to appear, some 6 years before the original scoring); and the extraordinary 'Gran' Partita', K.361 arranged as a 'Grand Quintetto' for clarinet, violin, viola, cello and piano by C.F.G. Schwencke (1805).
