They claim to be bigger than The Beatles, and One Direction are without doubt the biggest boy band in the world right now. Whether you are a “directioner” or not, you can share the 1D boys’ love for London.
If You Do One ThingGet an open top bus tour like the boys do in the video for One Thing. In the video for their third UK single the One Direction lads jump on their own private open top bus tour around the capital, taking in Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Covent Garden and the the London Eye. We can’t get you a private red routemaster, but Golden Tours offer great hop-on hop-off open-top bus tours.
Take a speedboat down the Thames and tour Tower Bridge like One Direction do in the video for Midnight Madness. You can recreate the video on a RIB speedboat tour down the Thames. Take in the same sights as the boys, including the Houses of Parliament and the the London Eye, before disembarking at Tower Bridge and taking the tour. You won’t be able to climb to the top like they did though, it’s a health and safety risk apparently (booooo).
Take a tour of Wembley Stadium, where the band recently sold out the 90,000 seater venue for the last date of their Where We Are tour. The lads are all known football nuts, and they are never far away from a ball in their pictures and videos. Louis Tomlinson even just bought a stake in Doncaster Rovers and Harry Styles is often in a Manchester United shirt. Niall Horan’s Instagram feed basically depicts the ultimate football (and rugby) fan, with selfies alongside World Cup heroes Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. Head over to the famous football stadium for the tour and see the pitch the lads took over in June.
It's not just football the lads like, Niall and Liam were also seen indulging in the tennis this year, taking pictures with Wimbledon star Laura Robson and generally making a storm at the Lawn Tennis Club. Can't get tickets for the Championships? You can take a tour of the hallowed turf of Wimbledon all year round.
Time to Take a Selfie
Take a selfie with the band at Madame Tussauds. The 1D boys proved so popular that Madame Tussauds constructed five new wax figures of the boys for fans to pose with, complete with outfits inspired by their recent This Is Us tour.
Map to the Stars
Stroll around Shoreditch and Primrose Hill. Harry Styles loves trendy Shoreditch, he owns a property there, and has also been seen house hunting in Primrose Hill, alongside bandmate Liam Payne. Harry’s favourite oasis of calm is the private members’ club Shoreditch House. We can’t get you in there but you might get a glimpse of the lads nearby; Camden Town in particular is great for strolling and shopping.
