The Household Cavalry Museum
Gold PartnerOverview
The Household Cavalry Museum, in the heart of Royal London at Horse Guards (official entrance to the Royal Residences) offers a truly enriching experience celebrating the history, heroes and exploits of the British Army’s senior regiment from its origins in 1661.
Fascinating rare exhibits, dazzling displays of uniforms, the chance to see (through a glass partition) troopers in the stables preparing their horses, the ability to try on real helmets and cuirasses, audio visual presentations, interactive displays, all combined with the opportunity to view outside either the daily Guard Change on Horse Guards at 10:50 (09:50 Sundays), the Guard Inspection (16:00) or mounted sentry changes on the hour (10:00 – 16:00).
A London must-see presenting a uniquely British blend of pageantry, tradition and history.

This museum is very small. It only has 2 rooms and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I had to do a double take because I wasn't sure if I missed something, so really I was there for a total of 12 minutes. That's 2 minutes for every pound I spent there.
The fee is £6 to enter. I got the London Pass ahead of time so I didn't have to worry paying again. If you like armor, horses, guns and...more
This is from an older trip, but interesting because of the upcoming Royal wedding.
The Household Cavalry Museum, is in the heart of Royal London at Horse Guards (official entrance to the Royal Residences). I was corrected on my pronunciation of "Mall" which is pronounced, roughly "Mell" for my American/Canadian ears. This place offers experience celebrating the history and exploits of the...more
Yee Gan got it right about this little museum. The Household Cavalry Museum traces the history from the origins of the Guards to their current role. Just be sure to wave to the Prime Minister as you walk past his residence at 10 Downing across the parade ground from the museum.
This is a much more interesting place to watch the changing of this mounted horse Guard than all the hoopla and big...more
Disappointed with seeing 10 Downing Street? Well, wander down Whitehall about 100 yards to this little hidden gem
You'll see masses of tourists having their pictures taken with the mounted horse guards in all their finery sitting on their horses.
Through the gate and arch is Horse Guards Parade where the Changing of the Queen's Life Guard happens everyday at 11am. It's free to watch and is...more
